This project was born of collaboration between the government of Luxembourg, and the ancestors of its emigrants now residing in the small village of Port Washington, just north of Milwaukee.
The light house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and required interior and exterior restoration. The restoration of the structure and reconstruction of the wood framed tower and cast iron lantern was necessary as the tower and lantern had been removed in the 1930’s upon decommissioning of the light station. The exterior work included metal shingle roofing, masonry and window restoration, interior alterations and finishes restoration, allowance for accessible entrance for the museum. The reconstruction of the missing historic cast iron lantern and wood framed tower was detailed by Tripartite, constructed in Luxembourg, shipped to the US, assembled on site, lifted into place and anchored to the existing structure.
